Principals Welcome

Welcome to St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School, Carnarvon.

My name is Deborah White, and I am the Principal of St Mary Star of the Sea College, Carnarvon. Carnarvon's traditional owners are the Aboriginal Yinggarda people, who named this area long ago, Gwoonwardu, meaning 'neck of water'. In the spirit of reconciliation, St Mary Star of the Sea College acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

St Mary’s is a Catholic, co-educational college catering for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. St Mary’s College provides a loving environment where the Catholic Faith is valued and promoted. The College’s vision is of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the love and support from his mother Mary, which is expressed in the College Motto “To Jesus Through Mary.” The caring staff are committed to the development of each child including their spiritual, academic, emotional, social and physical aspect so that they can become active participants in society, able to recognise and respect the dignity and rights of self and others. Each child is known and treated as an individual and challenged to support the community using their own skills and talents.

The school began in 1906 under the leadership of the Presentation Sisters who guided the school till the first lay principal was appointed in 1996. From the moment the first Presentation Sisters arrived at One Mile Jetty and walked into town; until the present time, St Mary’s has had a strong link to the Carnarvon multicultural community which is expressed through religious and cultural events. Close connections with parents are vital to support and assist in the holistic education of every child at the College, encouraged by the Parents & Friends group and School Advisory Council.

Respect, Resilience and Responsibility are the Core Values instilled by the staff of the College to create happy and fulfilled children at St Mary Star of the Sea College.

“Let Your Light Shine”
